Psychology One Conference

Teaching Expo:
Escape the (Class)room!

Christina Ragan

Brief Description:
In groups of 4 or 5, students complete activities and answer questions related to the Introductory Psychology unit covering emotion, motivation, language, thought, and intelligence so they can escape… the classroom! Students have 3 tasks at each of the 5 stations: 1) complete the activity; 2) apply the activity to concepts from the unit by answering multiple choice questions with the correct answer being the right combination to a locked box; and 3) unlock the locked box that contains a word to complete a final psychology-related phrase at the end before escaping.
Speaker Bio:
Christina Ragan is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Purdue University Northwest in Indiana.  She is also the Psychology Club Adviser at PNW.  Prior to her current position, she was a Visiting Assistant Professor of Psychology at Colgate University in Upstate New York. She earned her PhD in Neuroscience in 2011 and it was during her time as a graduate student that she realized she enjoyed being creative in the classroom. In graduate school, she earned the Biobehavioral Health Outstanding Graduate Teaching Award and the Nina Fedoroff Teaching Assistant Award. When she isn’t in the classroom or lab, she can be found playing with her two cats, Lola and Rusty, wondering how they'd do in a escape room.
